Mountain Brook Vehicle Crash UPDATE #1

July 24, 2023

On Monday 07/24/2023, the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the child killed in a weekend crash as Annabelle Mullican of Mountain Brook. We offer our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Annabelle as they grieve this unimaginable loss. Our community, especially Annabelle’s family, friends and classmates, will feel the weight of this loss for a long time to come.

As is true in every critical incident, the investigation takes time and requires thorough review of all facts.  No arrests have been made, nor any charges filed. Thus far, the investigation has revealed that on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at approximately 5:25 PM, a Mountain Brook Police Officer observed a white SUV traveling at a high rate of speed on Old Leeds Road. After the SUV turned onto Cherokee Road, the Officer activated the emergency lights and siren in their marked patrol vehicle in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop. The SUV continued at a high rate of speed, and within seconds, it crashed in the 3400 block of Cherokee Road at approximately 5:26PM. Officers and Emergency Medical Services immediately responded to the scene and rendered aid. We will continue to release any pertinent information as the investigation progresses.

The loss of a life as young as Annabelle leaves all of us devastated. A small list of resources are available to community members under the Parent Resources tab on our website.
