Mountain Brook Vehicle Crash UPDATE #2

July 26, 2023

On, July 24, 2023, we released details of the events immediately preceding the tragic death of Annabelle Mullican that left the community with lingering questions. While we address the concerns of our community, we must also preserve the integrity of the ongoing investigation.

On July 22, 2023 a Mountain Brook Police Officer observed a white SUV traveling at a high rate of speed on Old Leeds Road. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop of the SUV after it turned onto Cherokee Road. The SUV continued at a high rate of speed, and an occupant threw two items out of a driver’s side window. Those items were collected as evidence. Within fourteen seconds of activating their lights and siren, the officer observed the SUV leave the roadway and strike a tree before rolling onto the roof and coming to rest down an embankment. No other vehicles were involved in the crash. The officer communicated over a department issued radio for assistance, and all three occupants of the SUV were transported for medical treatment by Emergency Medical Services personnel.

Mountain Brook Police Traffic Homicide Investigators and our Detectives have been and continue to investigate this tragic event.  The findings of the investigation and evidence will be presented for criminal charges.  There is no timeline for this to occur.  As this goes on , we continue to mourn with Annabelle’s family, friends, and community.

This is the last update that will be issued until charges are obtained.  No further information will be released regarding this case until then.
