Alternative Mosquito Control
Attempting to eradicate adult mosquitoes with broad application pesticide spray is not only extremely harmful to all insects and pollinators (in your yard and in your neighbors' yards), it is mostly-futile (which is why frequent applications are recommended by your pest control contractor).
The most effective treatment is to control mosquitoes at the larvae stage. To that end a great alternative method of mosquito control is the use of Mosquito Dunks, a small donut-shaped ring that you float in a homemade mosquito trap. The dunk contains a bacteria that specifically target mosquito larvae. The mosquito dunk ring is effective for 30 days!... and for less than $1 per donut.
What you'll need:
- a 5-gallon painter bucket
- a bucket basket (optional)
- water
- some leaves or straw (such as straw for lining pet cages)
- mosquito dunks
